Helping women and girls to have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams

Soroptimist International Carmel Bay (SICB) is part of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

Why is empowering women so important?

The answer is:
What is good for women is good for all. According to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), increasing women and girls’ education contributes to higher economic growth. Increased educational attainment accounts for about 50 per cent of the economic growth in OECD countries over the past 50 years.

These are ways the Soroptimists contribute:

  • The Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women reaches more than 1,600 women globally a year with $1.7 million in funding.  At the local level, we awarded 4 scholarships in 2019 to help women reach their academic goals.
  • One of our recent projects was our Homeless Women Program, in collaboration with the Gathering Place for Women. We have provided more than 1,000 “Necessary and Nice Tote Bags” with food and personal items for some of the more than 400 homeless women in Monterey County.
  • SICB joins the other 200 clubs worldwide in support of the Dream It, Be It Program to provide resources to girls in secondary schools who face obstacles to their future success. The program gives girls access to professional role models, career education and resources to live their dreams. In partnership with the Girls, Inc. in the last three years, we supported a 1-day program for almost 200 girls in Monterey County.

We are a small, but passionate and collaborative club that works to make a difference globally and locally.  Please contact us or join one of our monthly meetings to be part of this inspiring and impactful journey.
