Soroptimist International of Carmel Bay

SI Carmel Bay will be the host club for the 2012 Sierra Pacific Region Conference to be held April 27-29 at the Monterey Hyatt.

Official visitors from Soroptimist International of the Americas and neighboring Founder Region will also attend.

The conference serves as the annual business meeting of the 44 region clubs. Workshops, awards, social events and camaraderie consume the three day event.

This year the incoming governor, Pat Jones, will be installed and a fond farewell will be given to outgoing governor Sherry Pearson.

The conference travels around the region allowing all clubs to serve as hosts or co-hosts about every 20 years. The last time SI Carmel Bay hosted was in 1995.

Business meeting Wednesday, March 14, 11:45*-1:15   President Lisa will bring agendas.

This meeting will be the deadline for registration and payment for the Region Conference.  Kathleen Voris will be on hand to finalize the list and collect checks.  Please contact her if you need more information.

Also, members may order “Soroptimist” shirts in blue or black.

Parking

Validated parking is available in the garage adjacent to the hotel. (Above/behind Chase Bank)

Here are some parking hints:

~go directly to the upper floors where there are usually plenty of open spaces

~park near the back of the parking structure; near the elevator.

~take the elevator down to street level and walk across the plaza corridor

~enter through the hotel’s side doors and you’ll be very close to Jack’s

On Wednesday, February 8, 2012, members and friends of Soroptimist Int’l of Carmel Bay will once again provide hostess, usher, greeter and ticket-taking services for the organizers of the “clambake” a party thrown for the volunteers on the eve of the golf tournament started years ago by Bing Crosby.

Orientation (mandatory) takes place at the Monterey Conference Center (Portola Plaza) on Tuesday, February 7 at 5:30 sharp.

Funds raised through this event are used to help fund the awards and projects of SI Carmel Bay.

PS Yes, there will be a business meeting at noon, at Balesteri’s. (see calendar)

Winnie Heh of Language Line will be our substitute speaker for the Wed. Jan 25 meeting. Leslie Bruhn (“Name Your Year”) has been postponed (tba).

The club will meet at Royal Splendor, 220 Dela Vina, off of Del Monte Avenue near Casa Verde in Monterey.

Our regular meeting on Wednesday, January 11 will be held at this fun location. “Royal Splendor” specializes in “Red Hat Ladies” products and activities. It is owned by a really nice woman named Nancy and looks to be a lot of fun.

The cost will be $15 per person. They provide chicken marsala, rice, two salad choicess, drinks and desserts. RSVP by Monday afternoon, please.

4th Wednesday in October meeting changed

The members of SI Carmel Bay are invited to a lunchtime tea at the home of Lori Silver. The October 26 event replaces our regular meeting at Black Bear Diner.

Unlike a membership tea, where prospective-member guests are invited, this is a members-only tea.

Invitations will be sent. While there will be no fee to attend (she is treating her fellow members to lunch!), please respond (yes or no) to the invitation so Lori will know how many members to expect.
